Shedding Your Skin into a Consciousness Where “We,” “Our,” and “Us” Come Naturally – 9

Let’s Graduate from a Life of Futile Effort
A moment ago I said that human consciousness loses its balance whether it leans toward plus or toward minus, didn’t I?
If you don’t understand that, your mood flips from one extreme to the other, and you end up thinking, “This all seems like too much trouble, so I’ll just stay the way I’ve always been.”
That’s exactly why I want you to know this: as long as your thoughts remain stuck to the physical body, no matter how hard you try to become a positive person, no matter how much you keep chasing an ideal character, however far you go, it will end up as futile effort.
Now, try thinking about why, in the world up to now, the shine of good people has been so weak.
It’s because, just like people who lean toward the negative, their consciousness had leaned toward one pole.
Why does that happen, you ask?
Yes, that’s a good question.
It’s because the phenomenal world is a world made so that both mental and material expressions appear split into two poles.
And above all, when human consciousness, which matters most, leans toward the positive or the negative, then by the law of rise and fall, consciousness that has gone too far to one pole easily flips at some trigger and becomes the opposite state.
It’s a state of consciousness that flips back and forth easily, positive to negative and negative to positive, like “someone who was laughing a moment ago is crying now,” or “someone who was in a bad mood until yesterday is in a great mood today.”
You might think, “If negative flips to positive, isn’t that a good thing?” But as long as consciousness is stuck to the body, that consciousness at the plus and minus poles is like a castle built on sand. It doesn’t last, and no matter how much time passes, you can never stand in a state of lasting, stable happiness.
As I said earlier, unless you look down on both poles at once, acknowledge them, and embrace them, you can’t let go of assumptions, fixations, snap judgments, and attachments.
The realm of bird’s-eye consciousness that can look down on things like that lies one dimension higher: not the second dimension but the third, not the third but the fourth.
Looking down on both extremes of yourself at once, acknowledging them, and embracing them could be put another way: multiplying the thoughts at each pole by spirit consciousness to bring them to plus-minus zero.
You could call it knowing that something is neither good nor bad.
You could also call it no longer being caught up in good or evil, like or dislike.

Let’s Make a Bird’s-Eye Field of Awareness Standard Equipment
Taking in self and others widely in one view like that, and no longer being shaken by anything, is what a bird’s-eye field of awareness is.
To make it your own, it helps to know the principle of the manifest world.
I said the phenomenal world is a world where, when light shines on an object, a shadow forms, right?
Try applying that to human consciousness.
For example, well, unless you stand in a place where you look down on the whole, a heart that tries to love someone is always accompanied by emotional thoughts that are the exact opposite of love.
You could say it’s like how people sometimes, precisely because they love, become jealous or suspicious, or start to resent that the other person doesn’t do as they wish.
Applied to the example of the object and the shadow, positive flipping into negative means becoming the thoughts of the shadow, right?
Human consciousness that has forgotten the truth of life is doing something like slipping into the shadow and becoming the shadow itself.
To put it in yet another way, say you’re watching a movie in a theater. The you who is watching is the real you, yet you become so emotionally absorbed in the story that you forget that, and your thoughts are in a state of having slipped inside the screen.
So in order to graduate from a life of futile effort that comes to nothing, you need to raise your consciousness in dimension to the next, deeper dimension. (To be continued)
