A Practical and Meaningful Way to Use Your Time

Until now, for Earth’s humanity, it has been taken for granted that many people live being jerked around by others.

But in truth, the very moment you feel you’re being jerked around was the most practical and meaningful time for polishing your soul.

Let me show what that means through concrete examples.

“He embarrassed me in front of everyone.” — When he thinks this, the man holds a grudge against that person that goes deep into his bones, but it is actually a chance to notice, through that person, that within his own inner world there is “a self who belittles himself” and “a self who is belittled by himself and made to taste bitterness.”

“She devotes her entire life to the great harmony of humanity. What a precious way to live. What a truly admirable person.” — When we see someone we can think of this way, our hearts seem to be praising that person, but in fact they are praising the light of life, the divinity, that dwells within ourselves.

“He must dislike me. Yes, he dislikes me.” — When you decide this, muttering to yourself without even checking with the other person, it isn’t an impression of that person; within you there exist, at the same time, a self who dislikes yourself and a self who is downcast at being disliked by yourself.

“I was treated terribly by that person.” — When you find yourself going back over that painful memory again and again, it is a chance to notice that you have left both a bully self, who kicks and tramples on you, and a bullied self, who is kicked and trampled on by you, unreleased in the darkness deep in your heart, one scheming and the other curled up, for a long time, and to set that attachment free.

To Be a Self That Isn’t Caught Up

If I went on listing them like this there would be no end, but by observing the movements of your own thoughts at every opportunity in daily life, you can find such examples within yourself.

That very “finding” breaks through the assumption that “the cause isn’t in me,” faces the facts squarely, and shines the light of life into the darkness of the heart where light had not reached.

Because when you do that, the unresolved thoughts at both of those poles scatter like mist at the same time and in a single instant.

Also, because the real cause that had been disturbing your thoughts is returned to the heaven deep in your heart, you come to a state of mind with few attachments.

What actually happens if you keep up this practice is that your heart no longer becomes disturbed, whatever you see or hear, whatever you touch, taste, or smell.

With the surface movements of thought left just as they are.

What I mean is that you transform into a self that doesn’t grab hold of thoughts.

Before you know it, you change into a state where you can naturally let go of emotions in a flash, without straining.

Even if you encounter something about which you think, “The old me would have been so upset in a situation like this that I couldn’t have stood it,” you can let it flow by and look at it lightly and briskly.

At that moment, you will marvel, “Was life really this easy to live all along?”
