Raising the Dimension of What Makes Your Life Worth Living (Part 1)

★You can tell the state of someone’s constant thoughts by what gives their life meaning
When you look across the differences between people, nothing shows the state of each person’s constant thoughts more plainly than what they feel makes their life worth living.
If you look down on yourself and others from above and survey “what each person finds worth living for,” you’ll see which way each person’s heart is facing, your own included.
Some people find their reason for living in winning—at stocks, foreign-exchange margin trading, or gambling such as casinos, pachinko, and horse, bicycle, or boat racing.
Some people throw themselves into winning the hearts of the opposite sex in their relationships, and find their reason for living in the thrill of success.
Some people work hard every day, finding their reason for living only in the evening drink after a job well done.
Some people feel a sense of accomplishment in building up savings and assets, and find their reason for living in earning and saving.
Some people find their reason for living in the smiles of their family, and do their best at their daily work for that sake.

Some people find their reason for living in community service, supporting the peace of the world from behind the scenes.
And some people find their reason for living in working for the coexistence of all living things, nature, and humanity. Setting aside self-serving thoughts of greed, they devote their minds and bodies to the peace of humanity and the tranquility of the Earth.
Besides these, everyone lives with countless other things that make life worth living.
And more than one, at that.
It isn’t one reason for living per person—each person holds several of them together.
In such a world, what has given your life meaning so far?
If you think, “I’ve never really been conscious of it,” take this opportunity to think, “What is it that makes my life worth living?”
Whether consciously or unconsciously, everyone holds something in their heart as a source of motivation for living, so you too surely have something that makes your life worth living.
And if what gives your life meaning is more selfless, rooted in an altruistic heart with less self-interest, then we can say your spirituality has put down its roots in the divine realm. (To be continued next time)
